Harm Reduction & Naloxone Training

WHY NALOXONE TRAINING MATTERS FOR EVERYONE

1. Opioid Overdoses Can Happen Anywhere
Opioids like fentanyl have increasingly contaminated the unregulated drug supply in Canada. This means that even individuals who do not intentionally use opioids can be at risk—for example, someone might unknowingly consume a substance laced with opioids. Overdoses can occur in public spaces, workplaces, or even within your community.

2. Empowerment to Save Lives
Naloxone training equips you with the knowledge to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer naloxone effectively. This is akin to learning CPR or basic first aid—skills that can make a critical difference in emergencies. The training is straightforward and accessible to individuals without medical backgrounds.

3. Availability of Free Naloxone Kits
In Ontario, including Toronto, free naloxone kits are available without a prescription at many pharmacies and community health centres. These kits often include nasal sprays or injectable forms of naloxone, along with instructions for use.

4. Legal Protection Under the Good Samaritan Act
If you assist someone during an overdose situation, the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides legal protection from charges related to simple drug possession. This law encourages bystanders to help without fear of legal repercussions.

Introducing a New Training Program in Toronto.

Introducing a New Training Program in Toronto

iHELP Centre is proud to launch a new initiative designed to empower individuals living in Toronto through volunteer opportunities and life-saving training. Beginning the next month, iHELP will offer free Harm Reduction and Naloxone Training along with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the community.

Why This Training Matters

Toronto, like many cities across Canada, is in the midst of an opioid overdose crisis. Every week, lives are lost — often in public spaces, stairwells, shelters, even homes. Many of these deaths are preventable. You don’t need to be a healthcare professional to save a life — you just need the knowledge and tools.

This training will provide you with:

  • A clear understanding of what harm reduction really means.
  • Practical strategies to reduce stigma and support people who use substances.
  • Hands-on instruction on how to use Naloxone, a safe and effective medication that can reverse an opioid overdose.
  • The confidence to act when someone’s life is at risk.

What You’ll Gain:

  • A certificate of completion.
  • Free resources and guidance.
  • The ability to help keep your community safe and supported.

This is not just a training — it’s a commitment to compassion, equity, and community care. Overdoses can affect anyone, anywhere. Being prepared means being empowered.

How to Join

This training will be held online to ensure accessibility. A smartphone or any device with internet is all you need to participate. Details for registration are included in the attachment/QR code below.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference — this is your opportunity.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. We would be honoured to have you join us.
